I sometimes hear this…
“I need to get in shape before I get started”....
Uh, what?
The whole point IS to do the exercise so that you feel better.
It really is that simple.
And doesn’t that make sense?
Starting out too much, too hard, too often.
You can’t start as if you’ve been lifting weights for years - because you’ll likely hurt yourself in the process. You can’t start as if you’ve been a competitive athlete when you haven’t. And if you go all in and workout every single day as hard as you can… you’ll likely burn out and think you just can't do it.
Yes, you’ll need to acknowledge that you aren’t in the shape you once were (who is?) and you're not the athlete you dreamt of.
You are the person you are right now and might have limits on what you can or can’t do. You might have balance issues. You might be over (or under) weight. You might have injuries.
Your knees might hurt all of the time because you have done too little, or too much, or the wrong things.
The point is, if you don’t start doing something, you’ll be in exactly the same place, or worse off tomorrow. And how many tomorrows do we have? Odds are, the healthier you are and the more you take care of yourself, the greater the number of healthy tomorrows you will have.
You might not know where to start and what to do to get going. Don’t let that fear hold you back.
Find a Trainer who is familiar with your circumstances and ask for help. Follow a plan. Start with exercise 2 or 3 days per week to start a sustainable pattern that won’t wear you out.
