RIDE C2C L2 Day 2 Flagg Ranch - Grants Village (Yellowstone) 7/31/2019
Miles: 24
Starting elevation: 6600 ft
Continental Divide: 7988 ft
Ending elevation: 7700 ft
It’s 3:52pm and we are hiding in our tent from a Yellowstone rainstorm.
The elevation has gotten to us both - extra tired, harder efforts during climbs, heart rate spikes higher, and poor Doug has a nasty headache.
Let me back up. We started this morning at Flagg Ranch - cool and crisp mountain air. We had breakfast at the restaurant (oatmeal for me, eggs and potatoes for Doug), loaded up our bikes and headed away from the Grand Tetons and toward Yellowstone.
The most notable parts of our <short> ride today - entering Yellowstone National Park (!),
a VERRY long hot climb to culminate at the continental divide, a stop at Lewis lake for a snack, and the road with no shoulder and lots of traffic.
We are at Grants Village for the night - when we arrived at 1pm - bought food at the small grocery store (more of a big souvenir shop and grocery afterthought) and made a quick lunch (I actually ate a can of “deviled ham” - had enough salt to replenish my sweat from the day), then we made camp and promptly took naps. That’s vacation!
