Date: 6/23/23
Day:1
Route: Louisville to Bardstown, Kentucky
Miles: 57.2
MyZone MEPs: 854

We rose at 6:00 am and fuddled our way through getting ready- a Well Oiled  Machine,  we are not (yet). But we got it together and we're on the road by 7:50am with a breakfast of instant oatmeal.

of course they had a selfie area at the hotel...

they had a great area to assemble our bags

We had to stop by "On Your Left Cycles" for a picture since we forgot yesterday.

We exited Louisville through Cherokee park with winding single lane roads through the forest and past huge old mansions.Very peaceful and beautiful.

 I loved this turtle fountain

after we went to the park, we were on the main highway for just a bit

and turned off to a big surprise… The turkey run park

With miles and miles  of bike trail up down and around and over It was slow going but lovely

after the turkey run we had a little bit of highway

to get to Jefferson town and we saw a target store and thought we might try there to buy camping gas. Target didn't have it but just a Waze down the road dicks did and we figure to cut through to get back on our route.

Then narrow winding road through creek valley -practically no cars - a stop for a rest

Then on to Bardstown. The Last 10 miles was crappy highway, no shoulder, 60mph traffic - put me in a bad mood.

Bardstown was big tourist bourbon village.  Our camping area was a couple miles out of downtown.

To Old Kentucky Home state park campground and golf course -

Larry, the campground host, didn’t like where we put the tent, had to move,  I was HANGRy and not very thrilled with this idea. But we did.

and not very thrilled with this idea. But we did.

There were no grocery stores nearby, so Then we walked 20 minutes to a restaurant that looked like it wasn't even open

Uncle Spoony’s cafe turned out to be the highlight of our day. Owner George Richardson entertained us with stories of hard work, family woe (his son is not interested in the business) and life advice.

he made us the best grilled pork chop. I've had in a long time and threw in some fried chicken because he knew we should try it. He calls it knuckle licking good.
