Day1: Sioux City to Onawa KOA
Miles: 46.5
MYZone MEPS: 680
Temps: 70-80 with threat of rain
We said goodbye to Sioux City at about 8:45am - a leisurely start.
The route was straight forward - and mostly straight - for today.
We were on “old highway 75” - a generally quiet cement road with plenty of cracks and holes to entertain us while we rode many many straight miles.
There was one hill “Sergeant Bluff” with the monument to Sergeant Floyd (see yesterday’s post for more on this explorer). We did our duty as tourists and stopped to take in the view for MILES all around us. Flat...Flatt.. Flatttt.
So we admired the corn and soybean fields, while pedaling along.
The roads were quiet.
We stopped at the delightful “Uncommon Ground” cafe/antique store in the town of Sloan - it was the only place open and so cute! Quiche and a smoothie for lunch.
Then back to pedal pedal pedal - it was kind of like riding your bike on a trainer for 45 miles - with fields of corn flowing by.
We are at the Onawa KOA next to Blue Lake. Alternately sweating and worrying about rain. Doug rode into town while I set up the tent.
We are showered and ready to relax! Dinner of pork chops, salad, and mashed potatoes to come.
